| Soldiers are the last to want War. But when war comes, a soldier will do his or her duty. Universal peace is the unquestionable goal of all mankind. However , the degree to which we have advanced in the human experience is not yet sufficient to bring about the end of all wars. From the human standpoint of good, man must first choose between evils, and of two evils choose the less. In warefare, our aim should not be to destroy the human adversary but rather to eliminate the unjust and wicked ideologies which threaten our sacred freedoms. A malicious motive, even in a small degree, would classify killing as murder."Thou shalt not kill" that is, thou shalt not strike at the eternal since of life with a malicious aim, but shalt know that by doing so thine own sense of life shall be forfeited." Only when one goes forth as did David against Goliath, with a fervent sense of duty to God his children and peace, can such an act be justified. An individual who fails or refuse to fulfill his duty as a sentry of Truth and Peace is also guilty of murder. Failure to resist evil seems to encourage it and magnify its activities ."When our nations rights or honor are seized, every citizen, man and women, would be a soldier and would be armed with power girt for the hour." Mary Baker Eddy. Until peace can be realized we shall strive to perform our duty , even though this may require taking human life in the defense of our family, friends and nation. We will pray for the prosperity of our country and for her victory under arms: that justice, mercy and peace continue to characterized her government and that justice, mercy and peace shall rule all nations |
